National Mathematics Day programs were celebrated with great vigor across the country on 22 December. In view of this special day especially in schools and colleges, important programs like speech meeting, seminar and drama staging related to the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan were organized.

On 22 December, district level quiz quiz and seminar was organized in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh state on the occasion of National Mathematics Day. Aryabhatta Vidyalaya team finished first in this program. Similarly, the program of Mathematics Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the city's premier educational institute Kichlu Public School in Moga, Punjab. During this time, children were also informed about the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Along with this, a quiz for children and a speech competition on the subject of mathematics was also organized.

History of National Mathematics Day

The great Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on 22 December in the Erode town of present-day Tamil Nadu. He studied mathematics unconsciously and started developing his research in the beginning. Srinivas read himself and was a man of learning himself. He never had any kind of training in mathematics. He first solved the formal and regular mathematics question when he was 10 years old. While he was in school he received several merit certificates and academic awards.

Ramanujam has contributed a lot to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fraction fractions. In 1913 Srinivasa Ramanujan approached European mathematicians to further his knowledge and interest in mathematics. He was also elected to various societies organized for debate and discussion on mathematics. He was the world-famous mathematician G. Started exchanging letters with H. Hardy and finally moved to England in 1914. He spent about 5 years in Cambridge and while living there wrote many papers related to mathematics.

Srinivasa Ramanujan's birth anniversary was declared as National Mathematics Day by the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh in the year 2012 for his memorable and great contribution towards mathematics. The year 2012 was celebrated as the National Mathematics Year for the first time nationwide.

Why is National Mathematics Day celebrated

National Mathematics Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the great mathematicians of India. Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh discussed the great contribution of world renowned mathematicians and stressed the need to carry forward his legacy by organizing National Mathematics Day. Great Indian mathematicians such as Brahmagupta, Aryabhata and Srinivasa Ramanujan have played an important role in the development of various formulas, theorems and principles of mathematics in India and thus encouraging the glorious tradition of Indian mathematics by celebrating National Mathematics Day and further Increasing is important.

The Prime Minister inaugurated a Center for Higher Mathematics in the name of Ramanujan at Alagappa University. He also said that the principles of mathematics are broadly used in the study of economics, science and other subjects.

Dr. Singh also acknowledged that there is no dearth of mathematicians in our country and it is the duty of the mathematics community to promote research and study of mathematics as an educational discipline in India and make it possible.

Dr. Singh paid tribute to the great Srinivasa Ramanujan, saying that he is the great son of Tamil Nadu and India, who has made his remarkable contribution to the world of mathematics around the world. In order to remember and honor his memorable contribution to mathematics, the Government of India announced the decision to celebrate National Mathematics Day every year on Ramanujan's birthday. 

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah acknowledged that it was hard work, enthusiasm and dedication that made Srinivasa Ramanujan a great mathematician. Universities are also encouraged to encourage students for research and development in mathematics. A platform for research and development can be created by celebrating National Mathematics Day. This platform will help students and researchers continue the legacy of a long-standing development that was founded by the original founders of mathematics and science.
